Mid Drive Motor E-Bike Conversion
We completed another e-bike conversion – this time on a Tracer Cruiser Chopper. The video below shows all tools and material needed for a mid drive e-bike build with installation of a Bafang BBSHD e-bike kit. Bafang’s 1000W mid drive motor was also used in our previous Sikk fat tire e-bike conversion and Gravity X-Rod e-bike conversion.
The Bike
We discovered the Tracer Chopper Cruiser on Amazon and immediately wanted to convert it. Its unique low-rider style gave vibes to mimic a chopper motorcycle. In addition, the frame’s sleek curves proved to be a fun challenge determining placement of the battery. As you can see, the final outcome did not disappoint.
The Tracer Chopper used as a donor bike for the e-bike build has been temporarily sold out on Amazon. However, the link provided is a good search term to find an equivalent bike for your electric bike kit build.
The E-Bike Kit
The kit consists of a 1000W Bafang BBSHD Mid Drive Motor. This kit also offers a multitude of options and provides the choice to include a battery, which is extremely convenient. You can also choose from multiple battery styles to ensure the best fit for your build.

Since the frame of this style of bike is stretched, we needed to strip and cut the battery and speed sensor cables because they wouldn’t reach. Therefore, we soldered cable extenders to remedy this problem. In order to do that we used the solder seal wire connectors and heat shrink wrap shown below.
